On November 1, 2013, in Television & Video Production, by Television Faculty

Our first year Television students are now in the midst of our initial multi-camera training production, “Studio 1 Live”.  We use a talk-show format to introduce students to a basic live production, where they have the opportunity to experience the job functions necessary to produce the show, including directing, camera, audio, switching (technical directing), lighting, and more.

TEDx RenfrewCollingwood – From Far To Here

On October 21, 2013, in Television & Video Production, by Television Faculty

Over the weekend, BCIT’s Television & Video Production Program took part in a local, independently produced, non-profit TEDx event, including special guest speakers such as Ann Makosinski, Rup Sidhu, and Valerie Mason-John.

TEDxRenfrewCollingwood is dedicated to discovering great ideas and sharing them with the rest of the world. The TEDxRenfrewCollingwood stage will bring unique thinkers together in a platform for sharing wisdom and experiences. It is a chance to welcome interesting people into the community and to  showcase and celebrate the dynamic ideas which exist in Renfrew-Collingwood and in Vancouver.

Together with Faculty and Alumni, first and second year Television students produced the HD event video, which will be edited and sent to the TEDx parent organization for inclusion on their website (links to follow when it goes live).

Commonly known as “3-point lighting”, it’s one of the basic lighting techniques that can be used to make your subjects look good in the camera.  We teach it to our first-year students as one of the first core lighting techniques that is both easy to use, but versatile enough to handle a wide variety of lighting situations.

And now in HD!

Today marked a first for BCIT Magazine as we put our portable high-definition flypack to good use! Together with our Broadcast & Online Journalism program, we produced the first-ever HD BCIT Magazine.  You can watch the show weekly on Wednesday and Thursday through our Livestream channel, or check in later to view it online.

We’ll post some behind-the-scenes photos and video from time to time as well, so not only do you see the stories being presented, but you’ll understand more about the process that the students and faculty go through to put the content together and broadcast it on a weekly basis!
