So as you may know, there’s this little sporting event going on in BC right now. There’s a little bit of media coverage and a few athletes have come to town to compete…
The result has been that BCIT is closed-down until March 1st.
Of course, even if we were open, we wouldn’t be getting much work done, seeing as how over 120 of our students and staff are working (and everyone getting paid!) for various media outlets involved in producing programming for the event. From NHK to NBC, CTV to OBS, both students and alumni are working everywhere, doing anything and everything.

Following our successful tests last week of our new, portable Broadcast Pix production system, this week we trained our first year students on it.
We used the portable system to successfully replicate the same “Studio 1 Live” show that we produced earlier in the year with a full control room, audio room, and VTR room within the broadcast centre. The possibilities are very interesting indeed…

Our commercial productions this week fell into two categories: Cleaning Products and Drinking Products.
First up was SoftMoc shoe cleaner. Shot in-studio and on location, showing the product and giving an example of the real-world messes it might have to clean up!
Next was a commercial for Jim Beam Bourbon Whiskey – illustrating the hazards of attempting a romantic encounter when alcohol is involved…

Had a chance to get our new Broadcast Pix switcher up and running last week! Our HD gear is commissioned now as well, so we’re going to be starting HD productions in the next few weeks!
We’re starting the training process in order to get students out doing live multi-camera switched productions in the near future! Students will be looking for production opportunities (read: non-profit projects) soon!
